Is it 'killer robots' or 'super intelligence'? At the UN, leaders see both
At the United Nations (UN) leaders are discussing the threat or promise of artificial intelligence (AI) at a talk about science and the future. A new U.N. science report warns of the potential of catastrophic and irreversible harm, with U.S. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calling for more oversight of AI, and the U.K. Security Council will address how to place some controls on the technology. However, Donald Trump, who used "artificial intelligence" as a reference to global warming, countered that the planet was cooling, not warming, and nobody was dead. The UN report also highlighted the danger of human-caused climate change for long-term breaching of the internationally agreed-upon threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) of warming since pre-industrial time.
