Citizens’ Impeachment and Courage For Democracy PAC congratulates Representative Thomas Massie for introducing the first Articles of Impeachment for a Trump administration figure from the Republican side.
While it’s incredible that Speaker Johnson has reportedly adjourned Congress for months in response, this is a clear sign that the impeachment voters have the numbers to succeed—and leadership is afraid of accountability. As we’ve been saying, polling clearly shows that the American people support impeachment for President Donald Trump and his cronies, and it’s about time that Congress catches up. We’d also like to note that this is not the first time he’s used this exact playbook. It didn’t work for the Epstein files, and it’s not going to save Hegseth, either.
This week’s unexpected turmoil demonstrates why we need regular impeachment votes on the House floor. They expose the rift between parties and factions and put everyone on the record. If this makes Members deeply uncomfortable, good. They have sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution and part of that work is removing unfit officials from power.
Speaker Johnson isn’t the only coward who refuses to face accountability efforts head on. Yesterday, 64 Democrats joined Republicans to prevent Trump’s impeachment as well. The House Majority PAC announced it will not spend a dime of its 151 MILLION U.S. DOLLARS on any candidate who talks about threats to our democracy. And, when asked for a meeting to discuss Hegseth’s impeachment, Jeffries’ office told us that we had “misunderstood” their interest in the issue. In short, the Democratic leadership is almost as out of step as Republicans on this issue.
We strongly recommend Congress connect with their constituents and understand where the American people are on this issue, and respond accordingly. And, we call on Speaker Johnson and Congress to choose courage over cowardice, get back to work, take this vote as the rules demand, and then introduce more Articles of Impeachment – this time, for Trump himself.
